It's quite clever. They only have to dig up the pavement once. Any upgrades or removing monoliths can be done fast and without disruption. They installed the whole of phase 1 in the same morning. Similar approach is being used for London cycle hire scheme, all the foundations are already installed awaiting the racks to be slotted in.

It seems that legible London is fantastically designed, even down to the tiny details.

Re: http://tumblr.iamdanw.com/post/571211577

Thanks. The Museé Mecanique further down the Embarcadero isn't bad, but avoid the rest of Fisherman's Wharf, that really is a tourist trap.

Check Upcoming - in San Francisco, it's actually useful from time to time.

Eat a proper San Francisco burrito. There's always an argument about which is the best - but Pancho Villa Taqueria is generally pretty good, and frequently has lines out of the door.

If you do one club night, go to Bootie at the DNA Lounge on Saturday night. Absolutely worth it.

It's worth signing up temporarily to goldstar.com - the deals there are worth it, and they'll happily let you unsubscribe afterwards (at least, they did for me). Most of them you won't want, but occasionally things like half price segway tours arrive. (Try searching by date - http://www.goldstar.com/eve... )

Oh, and seriously - buy a guidebook before you go. I know, it's old-school, but I always find them worth it.

Re: Violet, makers of Mirror & Nabaztag, have filled for bankruptcy — Dan W, Web App + Mobile Developer in London

There's a link in the post: http://bitbucket.org/andrew...

Re: Violet, makers of Mirror & Nabaztag, have filled for bankruptcy — Dan W, Web App + Mobile Developer in London

Hello-

I'm on a mac and I was wondering if there was any way I could get ahold of this software. I just finished an earlier version of the text and didn't know this extended version existed. But as an academic I need some reference information - reliable info as to who the author is and when and where it was published. The text itself doesn't state this, and the link to headmap.org returns an empty page. I've seen it referred to as Ben Russell and the year 1999, but the version I read referred to sources from 2000, so at least the year was wrong... Do you know where to find this information?

Regards,
Anders S. Living in Scotland, (and especially Dundee!) has its limitations for things like this.

Its a great start on what I think & hope could be something even better if an official API was to be released. Do you know if there is talk of one?
Obviously security is a major factor but being able to have travel data updated almost in realtime without the need of checking into the site.

Re: When we tally these incidents it creates a very... — Dan W, Web App + Mobile Developer in London

I really like that story. Then at a certain moment said hacker forgets to extend his domain subscription after which some leecher fetches the domain because it has Google love, and puts kiddy porn on the page. Next up some concerned mom finds the link on the BBC site and clicks through and gets the scare of her life. She then writes an angry complaint, saying the BBC is a disgrace to her taxpayer's money, etc.

As you can see, it's a pain to include links without them biting you in the ***.

Re: I have my dConstruct ticket — Dan W, Web App + Mobile Developer in London

Good luck!
